The opera-singing star of the Go Compare commercial has helped propel it to the title of most irritating advert of 2009.
The price comparison website advert was followed closely by Cash4Gold, which tries to persuade viewers to part with their broken jewellery for money.
In third place was the advert for Glade Touch 'n' Fresh, which features a young boy telling his mother that he wants "to do a poo at Paul's", where the bathroom has been fitted with the air freshener gadget.

99.9% of adverts come under the most irratating for me, a lot of adverts make me want to grind my teeth into little stumps. Plus with advertisements starting as little as 3 to 4 minutes after programme starting it gets my goat.

I currently hate any advert to do with sunny, warm holidays abroad Sandals, First Choice, Thomas Cook, especially the ad with Jamie and Louise Redknapp claiming to be using a package holiday firm for their getaway!! Guess their next family holiday will be cheaper - won't be able to take Harry

Hmmmm Maybe the telegragh reporter in the original Link needs to learn to count.... Top 10 most annoying adverts of 2009:
1 The opera singer in the Go Compare adverts
2 Cash 4Gold – encouraging people to trade in their beloved trinkets for cash
3 Glade air freshener, featuring a little boy telling his Mum he wants: "to do a poo at Paul's".
4 Swiftcover – Indie rock god Iggy Pop representing a firm that doesn't insure musicians.
5 Confused.com – people talking about insurance quotes.
6 118 247 – jingle rhyming the company name with "directory heaven".
7 Churchill – the talking dog that can only say two words. Oh, no. 8 Webuyanycar.com – repetitive jingle that won't go away.
9. Nintendo – Ant & Dec interacting with their public. I only count 9 in my link

I hate the go compare ad, especially when the kids sing along with it! I also had the Autoglass ad on the radio with the brummy accent

Those sponsor ads on channel 5 before CSI, like the one for the Kia Soul. They not only come on at the beginning of every all-too-frequent ad break, but at the end too. That works out at approximately 10 viewings for every CSI programme. You learn to be quick with the mute button when you're a CSI fan though
