Dell Bridge.

This is one of many fine examples of public amenity open space in Port Sunlight. Dell Bridge was built in 1894 to span what was once the upper reaches of Dell Creek, a former tidal creek that once divided the village in half.

It was drained and landscaped and now forms a lovely green ribbon through Port Sunlight.

The Bowling Greens.

Lever employed thirty different architects to create Port Sunlights unique style. Not only was he an avid believer in property sharing, but he also believed that the well being of the community went hand- in- handwith its success. To try and maximise this belief he introduced many schemes for the welfare, education and entertainment of his workers. the bowling greens were just one example.

Hulme Hall

Construction of Hulme hall began on 5th march 1900 and it was opened on 29 july 1901. It was built to serve as the womens dining hall and could seat almost two thousand people. During the evening it doubled as the village hall. During the Great war it served as a military hospital for wounded soldiers.

The Bridge Inn

The Bridge Inn is named after Victoria Bridge, built to span a tidal creek that ran across the line of Bolton Road: thew bridge thus linked Bolton Road to the New Chester Road (the creek eventually filled in and the bridge buried).
The Bridge Inn was opened as a hotel in 1900, but traded initially on wholly temperence lines, which meant no alcohol. This state of affairs continued until a referendum was held amongst the villagers in 1903: they voted 4:1 in favour of a drinks license for the building.

The war memorial is stunning. I never knew it had sculptures like that on it.
