You know how sometimes you can be so wide of the mark its not true, well I thought the Geneva Convention was formulated after WW2 (the 1949 date), I didn't realise that it dated back to 1863. mmmmmm I hated history at school, its starting to show blush

There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. David Osland 2025

The 1949 date was Nato which i think a lot of people get mixed up with. A good example of POWs doing war work are the Churchill Barriers on Orkney, the way they had to be turned in to roads.

Indeed 1949 was NATO, but it was also a key date for the Geneva Convention

First Geneva Convention "for the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded and Sick in Armed Forces in the Field" (first adopted in 1864, last revision in 1949).

Second Geneva Convention "for the Amelioration of the Condition of Wounded, Sick and Shipwrecked Members of Armed Forces at Sea" (first adopted in 1906).

Third Geneva Convention "relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War" (first adopted in 1929, last revision in 1949).

Fourth Geneva Convention "relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War" (first adopted in 1949, based on parts of the 1907 Hague Convention IV).

There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. David Osland 2025

Anybody want to come on a outing this afternoon - I have two local WW2 sites in mind - neither of which seem to have photographs anywhere on the internet. I can do driving. PM me!

Who remembers...

The shops on conway street? - Clicky

When Europa Pools, Vue Cinema and Conway Park train station was all a massive gravel car park?

There was an Asda where Wilkinsons in bhead town now is?

Finally, a decent picture of ASDA in bhead!
