There was a family of cretins from New Ferry that consisted of about five lads who were totally inbred. They called my mate who was from Brasil a 'paki'. He didn't even look Pakistani. We doubled back on ourselves and met up with them again and my mate poured a bottle of coke over their heads.

Brit means Britsh
Paki means Pakistani

If you associate any of the above with anything then it doesn't matter if abbreviated or not - Paki has certainly nothing to do with racism any more than Pakistani has.

Sikh is to do with SiKhism which is a religion
Pakistani is a nationality

There are an estimated 20,000 Sikhs living in Pakistan

I've never heard anyone referred to as a 'brit' in an insulting way.

I've never heard anyone referred to as a 'paki' as anything other than an insult.

in am british as i was born in britan but i am also english as i was born in england, so next week when st patricks day is being cellibrated by the irish it would be great if the english could cellibrated st georges day in the same way with as many st george flags around as we usually see of st patrick ones,
racism comes in many forms and st patricks day is commercialized in england and yet st georges day passes buy without hardly a mention.

Its a pity we don't celebrate St Georges day but in the past it has been frowned upon by certain councils and politicians. In the USA people are encouraged to fly the stars and stripes on their property's. Here if you put up the Union flag or the flag of St Goerge you would be accused of it having racial undertones or you would be accused of being a member of the BNP. Its a case of the tail wagging the dog.

i know what you mean, ita just a pity the foreigners in this country cant see that st patricks day seems to be promoted more in england than st georges day as that seems prejudice to the english, and yet the english and irish are all from the british isles so goes to show there is prejudice between ourselves as well

I thought the Republic of Ireland was just that..or Eire if you want to give it correct name. Do they see themselves as British or Irish?

The United Kingdom covers Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England.

And then of course there's Great Britain.

Is there any other conglomeration of countries in the world that is so confused about its name? Is there a historical reason for this confusion?

To be correct it is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, to be geographical correct Great Britain is Brittania Major while in France (Brittany)is Brittania minor.
