And life expectancy?
I am thinking the kids might like to have a couple. Our hamster passed on a few months ago and was never replaced.
We have a small glass fish tank that I think would make a good environment for them. About a year, if you keep a couple of eggs and let them hatch, they're a perpetual pet.

As I said, they're constantly laying eggs, which sit dormant until they're warmed up. I put some on the radiator and they hatched. They are a very good pet. Although a better pet would be the pair of Degus in 'Pets At Home' in Bromborough.
