...from the Scottish Mafia. Our chancellor reduces VAT to 15% then says he's going to increase duty on fags, booze & petrol. Bet he makes a profit on the deal in the end; sooner we chuck them out, the better.
Carpe diem.

I was in shock when it was leaked late on last night... Watch the profiteering take off big time, now that VAT has been reduced... do the government honestly think retailers are going to pass on the savings to the consumers? Behave, they still have not got the fuel and energy companies under control, how do they think they are going to get every retailer in the country to do it?
Nice one Labour, great plan, make the likes of Tesco more money, and still not fixing the economy. Wow I am going to save a few pence here and there, its going to be amazing!! I think not!
Not to mention the "tax bombshell" that is forthcoming after 2010...
How about the government use the people's bank to start getting the markets flowing?

But the additional revenue raised from the highest earner, is pittance compared to the additional spending/borrowing that is going to take place. Besides which, it does not even come in until 2010 at least. We were supposed to be borrowing £38billion for 2009, with a predicted 3% growth rate, instead we will be borrowing £118billion with a -1.5% (and that is being optimistic) growth rate. My oh my, how wrong did Mr Brown get that one!! Osborne isnt far wrong in his digs today, the country is nearing bankruptcy, this is going to come back to haunt us once the economy eventually begins to stabalize, we are now paying the price for a decade of irresponsibility by Brown/Labour, and yes yes yes, LABOUR HAVE DONE IT TO THIS COUNTRY AGAIN!! Osbornes joke about Labour and their addiction to gambling, running up debts on credit cards and trying to pay them off by getting more credit cards was hilarious, but ultimately it was very very sad, because it is so true. We are going to be paying for the mess Labour have got our economy into, for the next decade, just like we did the last time they left power! Alistar Darling anyone??

It at times like this, when I enjoy a bit of comedy and good old sing song... Apologies if the lyrics dont make sense, I tried my best, but im about as good with songwriting as the 1997 chancellor is with our economy...
Who did you think you were kidding Mr Brown? Now that you are on the run... You really need to try and stop your little game, You really truely should try and think again. Cos, who did you think you were kidding Mr Brown? And now it seems old Englands done!!

A small thought... If you don't vote you won't be allowed to moan about the state of the nation and what the government did to it, because you decided to let others vote for you and decide who came to power. Voting earns you that right.

To vote for a candidate/party you don't fully agree with IS your endorsment of the political status quo.
But, if you don't vote you don't have any other input on the running of society?
It's catch 22.

I think we've come a long way since the British Empire - barefoot kids in the street, sending women and children down mines, sending kids up chimneys, enslaving/oppressing whole continents, running their countries for them while we bleed them dry of their natural resources. No vote whatsoever unless you were landed gentry. The feudal system, class boundaries.
Blah blah blah
What was my point?

I have just come back from China (Shanghai) - and would go back tomorrow if I could. They have their problems as well - trying to maintain the 7% growth rate they need to keep expanding - but the place buzzes, it is clean (NO litter in the streets, no graffiti) and it is totally safe for man or woman to walk across the city at say 2am. Been there, done it.
A totally different political system of course and one in which the average person does not have a proper vote. However, those who are in charge do seem to point things in the right direction.
I could cope
