Right ive started a new topic for this one as requested  I was scanning a book in the reference library called "Auld lang syne" and it was the recollections of some guy whos name slips my mind and he mentions that there was a superstition or a rumour that there was a tunnel from Bidston Hall to Leasowe Castle. I wondered if anyone had heard of this or had any information on it.

Thats about 1.5 miles and most of the ground is sand. It would have been a major engineering event even today.

I read some where that there used to be a very dodgy path from Bidston to Wallasey and Leasowe that the landlord of the Ring O Bells public house used to send his smuggled goods along. apparently it was stalked by thieves and murderers .

yea i think thats true and only certain people knew the correct route to go...maybe there is no tunnel and its just the route to the castle that was secret. I know that there were supposed to be whale bones used as a bridge too.

I been inside Bidston Hall and spoke to one of the staff who help maintain the building a several years ago. They never mentioned anything about a tunnel. Plus i dont think its feasible for something like that to be built without a lot of investment and people knowning about it.
Unfortunately there are lots of rumours of tunnels around Wirral, and about 90% are not true !
