Did you not check/take it for a test drive it over before you drove it away?? If he failed to mention the problems you listed, then you were sold it under false pretenses, but unless you have it in writing that he didn't know of any problems beforehand, then AFAIK, a verbal agreement means shit all? This one tickled me though "rear tailgate has been sprayed by Stevie Wonder"

No mate took it on his word that all was good.(he prides himself on his word and honesty)
The law in this country states that a vehicle that is sold as roadworthy(ie mot'ed etc) must be safe to drive ie brakes,steering,windows,seatbelts lights etc must all be 'safe' to use on the road.
If you sold a car with the problems I have mentioned would you not feel guilty and responsible if I had an accident on the way home??
