They are closed up now by the council and would probably be very difficult to get into without a lot of digging and cutting through steel.

They are pitch black inside, but obviously with the flash on the cameras it's hard to tell how dark it is.

I doubt there will be any plans for us to go back in as we have answered all the questions we wanted to know, have taken tonnes of photos and mapped the tunnels out.

Inside is huge let me start 1998 they were open i was 18 and armed with torches, many days of exploration and several games of murder in the dark, and it was dark hand on nose with the lights off and you couldn't see your hand.

Once through the entrance you can go left or right only to come back in to the same corridor, this went on for about 200 yards were it branched of in to toilets and sleeping areas, there were many passages that ran through the place and many bricked up. The was a huge steel door at the end of one of the corridors which at the time was rumoured to lead to Chester? Known localy as the Chester wall. There was if you were very carefull a shaft which housed the air raid siren above that another entrance (which i presume is eithe in the old observitory or buried on the top of bidstone hill) the ladder to this had rusted away from the wall so there was no way up.

Cool place for kids tease

Mark; how has this changed from a Bidston thread to Tranmere?
Hi, SolventFree, that "air raid siren" is actually a ventilator fan.

Cheers, Chris

Chris, SolventFree's reply was to a post halfway through the topic where the topic title changed.

I have corrected the topic title now.

Thanks for sharing SolventFree smile

after spending half the night reading through this thread i noticed a couple of cut and paste from UE which i posted to try and help out with the access points to the tunnels.

Great to see you managed to get in and take some excellent photos..

It really hasn't changed, and the ladders and ventilation fan still look the same as I remember 30 years later.

Well done
