Two world-first test transmissions of UHD video will be carried out during the Amsterdam IBC 2008 technology show in September. In the first, video will be fed by SIS Outside Broadcasts, formerly part of the BBC, over an ultra-broadband fibre connection to the event.

Another test will see Super Hi-Vision pictures transmitted live via satellite from Italy and displayed at the IBC show. The BBC's research and innovation team will be showing compression and decompression of Super Hi-Vision using an algorithm they have developed.

Hmmmm... does anyone else wonder what the fook the point in this is?? Other than a waster of license payers money?

Considering they don't even sell TV's capable of receiving that definition, you're right.

Hell, spend the money on bringing the rest of BBC content up to HD quality!

On the plus side, REALLY looking foward to F1 in HD next year thumbsup

Shame about losing Martin Brundle though no

Id personally rather they spent the money on production than picture quality.

The problem in the UK, is for special effects to be made in HD, the studio's charge a LOT more, whereas in the US, all special effects are created in HD anyway.

This is why hit shows like Merlin and Doctor Who are yet to be filmed in HD.
