The Birkenhead Corporation bus, fleet No 2, is pictured standing outside Park Station in Duke Street 1922.

This was a Leyland "RAF" type bus which operated on Birkenhead's first scheduled motor-bus service from Rock Ferry to here in 1919. This bus was in service until 1927.

Park Station was opened 2nd January 1888, being the link station between the Wirral Railway which opened in 1866, and was extended to West Kirby in 1878, and Mersey Railway, which opened in 1886. This meant passengers could travel from West Kirby and Hoylake through Liverpool and vice versa, changing at Park Station.

The station suffered some damage from enemy bombs in 1941.

The wall on the left (part of the bridge) after the railings has something written on the wall, but from what I can make out from the working - "HERRONS"? I have no idea what is means or what it has revelvance to. Can anyone enlighten me?

Park Station got almost totally blatted by a land mine. It brought down half of the overbridge onto the lines below. Note the "newer" retaining wall on the Wallasey side.

A 6 car Mersey Railway train was in the (then) sidings almost below. It was badly damaged, but repaired and put back into service. The station was rebuilt as a plain, bland wartime construction. My late Father-in-Law told me the night the land mine was dropped (with parachute) the whole house shook. He was living in Aspinall Street - some distance away !

Note in the old picture, it says "Joint Station". this because the station was shared between the Mersey Railway & the Wirral Railway.
