today iwentto the Derv Doctor in Ashbourne to geta dump valve fitted. all went well and the fella commented on how wellthe engine had been looked after, but said when idle the engine judders and looks as if thers air traped inside the pistons(i think). hetold me it would be okay to drive home and shouldnt give me any problems for a couple of weeks but advised me to take it to a garage sooner rather than later. by the time i got my car bak the garage i go to for everythink else had closed so i just said i'd phone in the mornin. everythin went ok driving home, went to my girlfriends till about 10:00 then piked my mate up from neston rec. turned the engine off whilst i waited for him, turned the engine on and a huge cloud of black smoke was coming from the exhaustand continuing to pour out as i drove home.
what has happend? can anyone help me????

Check your intercooler hoses mate. It sounds like a blowen intercooler hose, if of course its not the turbo. I hope its not. The DD are pretty good, especially with DTurbos, so im sure his fitting of the dump has nothing to do with it. If it turns out it was the turbo, it was probably well on its way already.

jus phone the Derv Doctor and the lad who worked on my car said it looked as if it was only running on 3 1/2 cylinders and maybe there could b somethin wrong with the oil filter. he said that they do new cylinders off the wall 4 £145 but i cant get to them and they cnt send them thru the post :s. so i have booked in to olympic autos but not until next friday.

3 1/2 cylinders, and they can replance a cylinder for £145 I think they mean you can change the piston, but its a full strip down job on the motor If the car has a lumpy idle, it may be a holed piston (if you have had the boost upped) - which may be cheaper to get the motor replaced as a whole. ..on the other hand it may be a boost leak.. Its very hard to diagnose with someones discriptions, and not actually seeing the car..

took the 306 2 olympic autos this morning and have just had a phone call fom him saying that the head gasket had blown.
told him 2 fix it 4 me at a cost of no more than £500.
he said the head will ned 2 be sent off 2 be skimmed and a few other parts replaced - cambelt oil and filter etc..
do u think this is a good price?
also dont know how the derve doctor said it could have been the cylinders considering that theyre specialists!!!

head gasket replacment would mostly be labour costs as there is little parts to purchase.
So depends upon how long it would take them and how difficult it would be to take the head off.
Personally, I wouldn't pay anyone to do it, far cheaper to do it yourself if you know what you're doing. I've done mine myself.
I have no idea how much it would cost, but to me that price is quite high. I'd say £300 max, but I have no idea of labour costs?
Have you tried getting quotes anywhere else?

The HG set for the 1.9TD motor, inc the head studs etc is around £200 IIRC (What I was quoted by a motor factors for a Xantia TD engine) Head skim - £50, plus filters and belts etc, I think £500 all in is a pretty reasonable price
