Fook the N95 is okay, but its not the king anymore. Its never been the king for the camera... and as for the Smartphone options, the Sony Ericsson P1i is much much better on the Symbian platform.

If you require video capabilities, its still advisable to got the N95 or N93/N93i, but other then for this, there are much better options for everything else on the market.

The P1i has the K800i camera bar the xenon flash bowdown

Oh yeah, the battery life is crud on all Nokia's to be fair, so it will be worse on the N95 due to the amount of power it eats, the CPU is quite in-efficient, same fault with the N80.

Did they really want you to sign a disclaimer about the battery life raftl

I know its bad but didnt think it was that bad lmao!

The question has to be, what do you want from a phone?

Video - N95/N93/N93i (personally id go for the N93, optical zoom and better form factor)
All Rounder - Sony Ericsson P1i/K850i
Smartphone - Sony Ericsson P1i/Toshiba Portege G500
Camera - Sony Ericsson K810i/K800i (but these are a bit oldish models now) or Sony Ericsson P1i if you dont mind losing the flash. Also, the K850i should be out soon...

Thing is, I only really like the Nokias - Ive always had them and just really get on with the menus etc.

I have a K800i for my work phone, and hate it, menu navigation feels clumsy after a Nokia frown

I think your decision is already made up for you then. wink

Have you considered the 8600 Luna? That is one mother fookin sweet ass fone lol!

Tbh, if you are used to Nokia's the K800i will feel weird, the same as any other manufacturer GUI, because the buttons are different, but imho, although I am used to Nokia and SE feel a bit weird, their menu system is much better designed.

The P1i has a touch screen woooo lol!

But Nokia's will be the same for eternity, so we will always be used to em, its a shame their battery life is poo lol.

Also, keep an eye out for the Nokia 6500 Slide, should be launched soon, that is like an upmarket non-Symbian version of the N80, but will have much better battery life. It does VGA video too.

More importantly though, did they really ask you to sign a disclaimer about the battery life??

as mentioned the battery life is pants . But if u have a car charger its ok. Its advisory to keep it on charge when using the www. Or similar. Infact this message you see has been written and posted via my n95. (tis charging) if im down the meet u can try it out and weigh the pro's and cons.

Wow is it really that bad fella, I knew it wasnt great, but didnt think it was terrible or nothin.

Does it allow you to change to GSM mode, or is auto-select only on UMTS/GSM like the 6630/6680/N70 was, as I know with the K800i, the battery life was like 7 days standby on UMTS, yet it was like 15 days in GSM mode, could be an idea if its mainly getting used for calls (I know this doesnt apply to you Whelan cos you always use it for the net lol).

i dont know. I suppose almost anything is possable but i dare not mess with the settings incase i mess something up.

If you are a heavy user like me ther are probs. Like the keypad keys loosing their silver finnish and battery life. The only other prob is it has crashed on me, but only about 3times since i had it. Im happy with it tbh and it has alot of things that are useful like google earth ect.

As matty said it depends what you want to use it for. Im stuck in a office with 24 screens and 100+ cameras of happy people spending money so i get bored and surf the web alot, good camera and very good video quality.

It wil even download the bbc news for you ready to watch ön your commute to work.

battery life on mine is ok, never had a prob with it, iirc, nokia did advise of faults with batterys with certain serial numbers which they will replace for free, supposedly resolving any standbytime or battery usage problems..

Battery life wont be improved by changing the batteries Jonah mate, the simple fact of the matter is, Nokia's always use excessive battery power, especially their Symbian smart phones, because they havent quite got their heard around the fact that a lot of people nowadays also look for battery life when choosing a phone.

When an N80 can only have a standby time of 3 days tops, an N95 will be less then this, and you look at the competitors with the likes of 14 and 16 days standby time for the same spec phones, its makes you wonder why Nokia dont just get level.

Other then the battery life though, and the off OS crash (which is commonplace for all Symbian phones tbh) they are pretty solid phones overall. The N95 is only considered a bit of a letdown because Nokia built up the expectation for about 6 months before actually releasing it, saying it was going to be the best thing since bread was sliced, when in reality it only turned out to be a N93 but with GPS, a cheaper + less advanced form factor (and in some ways more practical) and without an optical zoom on the camera (might I add that the N93 is a stellar phone, and was miles ahead of everything around it when it was the top dog).

So the N95 is a good phone, but it could have been so much better. Battery life on Nokia's is always poor, but as Whelan says, if you have a car charger, it shouldnt bother you too much.

I cant believe they want Stuy to sign a disclaimer about the battery life though, it must because they are getting a lot of returns. I know they were getting a lot of returns, but I assumed it was down to some of the bugs in the early firmware, which should be resolved by now, maybe its battery life thats causing the problem as well though??
