8 when i bought it, 10 now tho with it being registered as an 1800 Si 16v. Its attrocious i think. but IMO groups mean nothing, each car has a record of how much that model gets crashed and how often theyre stolen etc. The BM i have which doesnt work is grp 14 but to insure it is LESS than insuring the grp 10 escort, cos not many 520s get wrapped into trees by careless yoofs, like escorts do.Cos 520s are normally driven by granddads lol

Do insurance groups on cars change?

Take the Civic, originally bought by grannies and grandads 10 years ago, now alot more younger careless people are buying and modding them becuase of films and computer games making them popular

i dont think the group changes rob, but as mentioned, i think the companies price each car by its reputation, and as the civic is a low group but is now getting crashed/stolen/owned by high risk drivers so i wouldnt be surprised if its a heck of a lot more to insure than a proper grannies car in the same group

The insurance often goes off how difficult/expensive or labour intensive a car is to repair. Not the be all and end all of it though. Some companies have private guidelines about certain demographic groups driving certain cars in certain areas, which hikes the price right up.

e.g.

17 yr old lad, pug 205, in liverpool = likely boy racer

17 yr old lad, Saab 9000, in rural scotland = likely to be a farmer

or something like that, its all about risk, and the groups isn't the end of it. wink
