If the discs have a lip it means there worn and need replacing. When you have this work done make sure copperslip is applied to the disc bell, the side of the pads that DOESNT touch the disc and also were the disc bell touches the alloy

Do this to avoid any squeels and remember to 'bed' the brakes in for 200miles

***Always replace pads and discs together***

A rough price from a garage would be £80 ish if they are solid discs or approx £120 if they are vented discs. Thats to replace all the fornt brake pads and both front brake discs.

If they are just squealing they propably just need servicing, removing, cleaning, facing off and re-fitting but i would suggest to have them checked professionally to get to the bottom of the problem. Most garages offer free brake checks.

Its not a difficult job to do yourself if you are companant but its not a job for the novice.

Hope the info helps ??

Id say you'd need at least basic knowledge on what your doing bud, at the end of the day its the brakes so if you screw up it can end very nasty. If you have a Haynes manual am sure with that and a bit of commonsense you can do it yourself.

May be worth ringing one of the sponsers as it may work out cheaper in the long run smile

The basics are:

Jack the car up ...

Take the wheel off ...

Take the dust covers off the back of the caliper unit (that attaches it to a hub), and undo with one of those ¬ shaped allen key bolt removers (from Halfords)...

The caliper should slide away from the disc, make sure it doesn't hang down by the brake hose (support it by a piece of string or something)

The brake pads can be removed by just pulling them out by hand - you'll need to compress the piston in the caliper as your pads have worn down so the new ones will be thick and won't fit the disc, I use a simple carpentry G-Clamp and slowly squeeze it with that (brake fluid should rise in the fluid resevoir in the engine bay) ...

Pop the new pads back in ...

The discs are easier - undo the single little screw that will be on the disc, and remove it, and change over for the new one.

Then do the reverse, it can be done in 15 minutes, the only pain are the bolts on the back of the caliper, they're quite tight and there's not much room! You don't have to bleed the brakes this way also. wink

I've probably left something out there as well. laugh

The discs dont come off easily, normally have to hammer them off.

Dont forget to pump the brake pedal up after pushing the brake piston back

No, When you have finished the whole Job mate, sorry if i did not make it clear.

When the calipers are back on then pump the brake up to push the new pads up against the brake discs otherwise you will drive down the road and press the brake and nothing will happen smack
