Does anyone think that these look the real deal and any good? I heard coilover were a stupid price??

Ive just paid £75 for some 40mm springs, I can sell them on again if these look good!

These coilovers are designed to be fitted with your existing/original struts.

Never seen the design before but i carnt see any reason why they wouldnt work.

Its a cheap fix to be honest but would do the job.

Makes this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/98-04-Ford-Fo...9743QQcategoryZ40192QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

look like this E-Bay link

Makes the post look allot tidier for members to read.

The little rings Im guessing are sound deadeners or spacers.

The only thing to watch out for is if you set them really low, on full extension of the shock, the spring doesnt rattle round (Maybe thats what the rings are for), if the car goes light, and the spring moves from where it was seated and doesnt settle back there when the car goes back under compression it could be quite nasty frown

Hmm yeh.

Should I go for them you reckon? Or Stick with getting the 40mm AVO ones ive got fitted? To be honest I wouldnt be too bothered about having it slammed fully, but is worthwhile considerin?

These go over your stock dampers, and you shouldnt really change one without the other. What spec is your car mate? if its an ST170 or other sporty one it may have sports dampers so will be able to control these springs better, soft family suspension however wont like these and you may bottom out a fair bit

These are good if you just want to slam it 75m and have the ability to adjust the height. Its not gonna be the best option if you want good handling. MAybe combine them with a set of ford racing dampers (available from pumaspeed for 200 quid-ish) or just get a full ford racing suspension set-up or 2nd hand suspension kit from any of the big names??

Hmmmmmmmmm

I think i'll just stick with what I've got.

Its only the 1.6 zetec, and people of the FFOC seem to be reluctant to do anything with standard ford dampners, they think 35mm on Eilbek springs is the best you can do!

I'll just stick with the 40mm AVO's ive got for now with standard dampners, these things will prob be around ebay for ages I'm sure!

yes shorter springs are stiffer but if the dampers are soft and not "matched" then the springs cant stop themselves from fully compressing with the help of "comfort" dampers that come on standard family cars.Uprated dampers slow the speed that the springs move up and down thus stoppin bottoming. You may even notice a drop in handling if you slam your car on aftermarket springs only

I had these 'coilovers' on a Honda CRX which lowered it by 100mm and they were horrible, far too soft. I have seen a lot of other people complaining that they are too soft.

Comparing them to my standard suspension, handling was a bit better in the dry but worse in the wet.

I'd say if you just want looks then go for them but if you want handling then definately stay well away!

Looks Like I'll just stick to the 40mm AVO ones i've got at the moment!

Dont wanna jeopardise the handling it do any damage to other parts!

Cheers for your input guys smile

I'd stick with what you've got, they look really cheap.

The kit in the auction is a conversion kit.
You get a threaded sleve that you weld on to your existing shock, then it has two threaded rings each side that screw on to the welded on tube.
Then you can adjust the ride height of you suspension.
I've used them before, a bit tricky to fit as you need to strip you dampers down in case of burning when welding, but seem OK.
Never used them on the road, only in a straight line race.
