Does anyone have knowledge of a Pub known as "The White Swan" in Prenton around 1916.
I am researching my Grand Uncle James TAYLOR 1887-1917 I have a letter written by a cousin of his in 1991 that says he was the publican of the above.
I have reason to doubt this because... 1909 lived in Toxteth and occupation was "barman" 1911 lived in Toxteth and was a barman at the Palace Hotel, Liverpool 1917 Killed in WW1 (Military record probably destroyed by fire WW2)

The Swan, Prenton opened before 1864 and was known as the White Swan at one time. 2 Holm Lane, Prenton, Still open to this day, In 1916 it was under Bents Brewery https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.3721739,-3.0581967,76m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttuI'll try and look up more later on if Bert doesn't beat me to it.

1911 and 1916 directories, Mrs Mary Brown was recorded as Beer seller and Manager at that location.
Wirral Archives may have records for Victuallers Licences and may be worth contacting them by Email.

Thanks for that. I had seen that location on Google Earth but was not sure that it might have had the "White Swan" rather than the current "Swan". Whether James TAYLOR was associated with it remains enigmatic given all records for him point to Toxteth rather than The Wirral. On the other hand, his brother David Bushell TAYLOR lived at 33 Westbourne St, Birkenhead and was a chimney cleaner. He also was killed in 1916 in France during WW1.
