Taxi driver Dave Perry must get the award for the toughest guy on the planet.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-59291095

It takes more than luck to be able to run or even stand up after a flash-bang on that scale in an enclosed space like a car.

I'm glad natural justice won for a change.

Seeing the video, a number of "eye witnesses" (or media inventions) gave totally the wrong sequence of events.

There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music. David Osland 2025

'Eye' Witnesses nearly always do. They think they saw is the norm.

The bomber had been in the country seven years without achieving asylum which was rejected nearly a year ago. Having people in seven years of limbo is bound to kick up problems, not an excuse but it has to be taken into account as a contributing factor and the process needs fixing.

I totally agree that this system needs changing but as usual the government drag their heels!

However this man was mentally ill so they tell us; how true this is I don't know!

Care in the community has never worked! Once again due to the Governments lack of understanding and cuts to the services, we have seen many people being killed due to this! When people don't take their medication because they think that they are well, lack of care and support etc.... this is the outcome!

Mental illness has always been given the smallest amount of money; ignorant MP's think that if you can't see an illness then it will go away; well this is the consequence of years of failing to invest in this area of health!

How many more people will have to lose their lives or a loved one's due to a person who is mentally ill who hasn't received the vital care and support that should be afforded to them.

Another issue that infuriates me is this. I have heard on the news a number of times over the years this statement: a Paranoid Schizophrenic has killed someone. May I correct anyone who says this, this is someone's Son, Husband, Brother etc.... this a person who suffers from Paranoid Schizophrenia; it does not define a person!

We can only imagine what this illness does to a person and their families; many of whom do their utmost to support them as best that they can.

There but for the grace of God go I!

Care in the community was always about reducing the amount of money going to society so it could be diverted elsewhere.

The amount of funding and functionality provided by society through charities and the like is crazy.

163,000 charities with a total income of over £50bn. Nearly one million jobs/volunteers.

Remind me again why we pay taxes and what are the functions of our Government?

My thoughts are this.

Through my own experience, charities many of, appear to use much of their money to fund there own jobs, pension's, cars and of course overheads which is where the bulk of the money goes. Not all of them may I add!

We know why we pay taxes here but as you've mentioned above, the amounts in charitable funds and work re charities, volunteers never appear to be enough do they! Just one issue, we know that the homeless and lack of housing is a huge problem here and many charities do an enormous amount of work to help but the Government seem to leave it all to them!

If we had more transparency with the actual amounts of money and government funding included, then surely we could hold these people to account but will we ever know this for sure and if so, would the issues we face in this country change; I'm not sure!

I'm never so sure of that, the amount of services for homelessness seems disproportional to the number of homeless people. The NHS, Council and numerous charities exist for homelessness but what is the size of the problem?

Trying to look at figures around 2018 and 2019 (pre-Covid as the rules and funding changed temporarily) doesn't show a big problem.

Estimates for rough-sleeping for 2019 was 6 (on any day).

In 2019 households in temporary accommodation by the council were 29 (on one specific day).

Admittedly this can be looked on as the system is successful, a lot of people are given advice and limited help to prevent future/anticipated homelessness. On the other hand there will always be a turnaround, people leave housing for various reasons, a significant proportion of turnover is because the landlord/owner are not happy with the way the tenants/guests have behaved.
