I've just come back from a fascinating trip to the Wirral and Liverpool to search for some places I remember living in over 70 years ago! One of the addresses I 'think' I remember is 121 Poulton Road, in a flat above a butcher's shop. Does anyone know if 121 WAS a butcher's shop in the early 1940's? I remember playing at the back on what I think of as spare ground? On my recent visit there was no spare land of course. But there was a school opposite, though not the school I recall.

Another question regards The Wiend, in Birkenhead. I definitely lived there for a while, but I'm not sure of the number, though 25 is in my mind. I would like to know which school was within walking distance for a junior child then.

I'd appreciate any information you might have.

I think the original post was about 121 Poulton Road WALLASEY

If so the school opposite was Somerville Primary and still has a similar name.

I lived in Annesley Road 1943 - 65.

I don't remember a butchers but the Queens Cinema was a bit further down towards Seacombe.

The question about which school related to The Wiend, Birkenhead.

Wally1 - thanks for the information about the school. I was thrilled with bert1's reply confirming the butcher's shop beneath 121 Poulton Road where I lived for a while, probably aged 5 or 6. When I explored recently with my daughter I did have a strong feeling that 121 was the right number. As a child I thought I had played on a 'bomb site' behind 121, but this memory is probably false. I lived at various addresses in Wallasey and Birkenhead up to the age of 12. Some of my memories have been confirmed and my daughter has been impressed. I'm sorry to say that very recent memories are now very confused!!!
