I don't see it as the charity's role to police their workers.

Whoever had suspicions that child abuse was taking place should have reported it to the police.

Whoever had suspicions that workers were illegally using prostitutes should have reported it to the police (which would probably be ignored in Haiti). If an Oxfam worker is not convicted of a crime I don't see why Oxfam would be accountable, they would be acting on guesswork/hearsay.

Oxfam's primary role is to protect people from starvation, just because they have a moral role does not mean they should be more morally accountable on other acts of morality and certainly should not be performing criminal investigations.

Its another case of the media jumping on a charity who can't really protect themselves, cheap easy page-filling with a false sense of morality.

Not sure about all that. One interviewee was stating that these charity workers drive around in 4 x 4's have gated apartments to live in, have a very good life in general whilst those affected are living on the bares bones.

OK, that's fine, but then we understand they are there to provide assistance, food, medicines, etc. which I'm sure they do , whilst the locals are providing a service for them too.

Take it one step further, ... who provides the money to fund these charities and their big cars, elite apartments and lifestyle. We do, the public and the Government , so how is it that the charity itself is NOT accountable for the bad practice and human abuses ?. £427m last year, including £31 million form the Government. They most certainly should be accountable like any other company. They choose their employees and their volunteers, so the buck stops with them.

No, what employees do in their own time should be absolutely nothing to do with their employer unless they are convicted of a crime or directly sully their employer.

I dont like the idea of giving money for a specific cause only to find out its been used to pay for prostitutes.. Can remember watching a documentary (think it was haiti) where they were looking at the small on the ground charities and individuals who were doing more hands on good to those suffering than the large charities like oxfam. I suppose its a matter of scale though...if a charity like oxfam can fly in food etc even though it has a bit of corruption going on that could be seen as better than just being able to help say 50 people with 100% of funds.

As far as I am aware, there is no accusation that Oxfam money has been spent on prostitutes?
