plastic bollard was knocked down around 26th Nov leaving a six inch stump sticking up. A traffic cones was placed over the stump by school caretaker. Some sod nicked the traffic cones during the week. Friday morning it was reported to council as a dangerous trip hazard by several people including myself. I said i would go and level it but was told not to do it as council would sort it. In the afternoon a 65 year old man tripped on it and fell into the road sustaining a serious head injury requiring ambulance (which took 30 minutes to arrive) to take him hospital. I just hope the poor guy is ok and not got broken skull or internal bleeding. It was reported again immediately following the incident as being a dangerous trip hazard and had just caused the injury. Checked on council website and says it will get fixed around 6th Feb 2019..UNLESS Its an Emergency WTF!...Red tape !! Any way 10 seconds with a sledge hammer levelled it. So fricking angry..the sound of the guys head hitting the concrete haunted me..

Absolutely appalling. I'm sorry to know about the poor man.
I hope someone can advise him to make a claim , which could take them a long time to get around to, but injuries can take effect in different ways at a later stage.
If council staff can make claims,(as they have) I'm darned sure the public can in such instances.
Normally I wouldn't support that sort of thing, but in this case I do. There surely was nothing to stop someone coming out and inspecting, they're not that rushed off their feet. I'm pretty much as angry as you are.

I don't know why it takes the Council so long to get things done around here, they have contracts with different companies, street cleaning, streetl ights etc so i don't understand when one reports an problem, lights out, pavement loose, pot hole etc etc its not dealt within a few days.
I was driving to work along Wallasey Village road last month, around 5.15am when someone in a car pulled out on my, didn't check their mirrors, i thought i would just overtake them as they where going slower then me 30mph, then i slammed on my brakes when i saw in front the small island in the middle of the road, with all the lights out, the car driver who was now awark pulled over to his left to allow me passed.
I reported this to the Council when i returned home from work, i went down that way last week and noticed all the xmas lights had been turned on around the lamp posts, don't know if these had been left all year long or had only just gone up, rode passed the island, the lights where still out, i have checked the proccess of the work, its supposed to been done by October, its now December.
As i ride to and from work around the wirral this is not the only island with no lights working, St. Hilary's brow street lights have been on for a few weeks but mostly out of the last year.
So can someone tell me why i am paying Council tax each month, just got in and after the heavy rain this morning most roads are flooded, because the grids are never cleaned out, the people of Wirral are being robbed each month!
Hope the chap who fell takes them to the cleaners!

Strikes me some its some sort of triage system thats missing . Someone whose job it is to assess reports of problems immediately they come in , and anything wrong that could be injurious, passed immediately to an on call team taken off routine maintenance work, to go and sort it.

Poor man,hope he recovers quickly & gets compensation. I reported a deep pothole in the road last February,again in May,again in September which resulted in a white spray being put around it. This pothole was right across the pedestrian crossing,a hazard for elderly,young on trikes & Mums with buggies. Then the local councillor called to ask if there were any problems.Two weeks later it was filled BUT only ONE side of the road ! The Councillor wants to know why, so do I 😡

The grids are blocked because the Council no longer sweep up the fallen leaves and they remain until cars mash them into a pulp. This gets washed into the drains and blocks the grids. Then the council eventually have to come along and unblock them. that's if someone's bothered to report a flood.
I reported one a few years back after Liscard road by the Park gates was flooded after every rain storm. It was that bad, It was almost across to the other side of the road. It had been like that for about 6 weeks. You can't tell me that not one person in the council ever drove past it in all the time the huge puddle was there. I think they all drive around with their eyes averted to what's actually going on in the borough.

Going back 15 years or more, certain roads were swept multiple times a week during the leaf falls, sometimes even twice a day, even that didn't stop grids blocking and flooding.

The flooding caused traffic congestion so I used to go out with a stick and clear a few drains, I gave that up as numerous idiot drivers who had been driving round the floods chose to drive right through them to soak me, getting wet didn't particularly bother me as I was dressed in army wet weather gear but it was the attitude that really pissed me off and I knew at some time there was a chance my pole might have ended up through someone's windscreen.

The leaves in the gutters in this area are also blocking the drains. It happens every year, so why aren't they onto this by now ?
It was the flooding a couple of years back that I believe was the cause of a tree at Thingwall/Arrowe Park to be in such ground sodden conditions, it fell over onto a car. Trapping the woman who was pregnant and who ultimately lost her baby. A couple of days before that happened. just past the Thingwall roundabout it was like lake. Nowhere , could the water go.

They still don't learn anything !

You can blame this piss-poor government we have. Or if you voted for them, blame yourself!. It was obvious from the start that they are a bunch of clueless boneheads whose response to any economic crisis of whatever sort is identical.

Cuts!

They have enough money to upgrade the Leisure Centres, West Kirby, Guinea Gap , Leasowe and the Oval. Bloody firework displays and Giants.

Don't blame the Government for every damn thing. This was health and safety issue, for which council funds are more than adequate and if someone is on the payroll for such inspections, it's already been paid for.

TBH, I don't understand how suddenly it became someone else's fault for not watching where you walk, should I sue farmers every time I twist my ankle down rabbit holes on footpaths?

Next people will put in claims for walking into lampposts and tripping on kerbs and steps. If you walk into a clearly visible object it is your own responsibility surely, god knows how you'd navigate round a toy strewn family house.

success of sorts....new bollard has been installed...... I hope the old boy can claim even if only to have a few extra drams over christmas to give himself another headache! Not quite sure if council could be regarded as "negligent" with only 5 hours between it being reported and the incident. apparently though if its reported as dangerous they still have to send an inspector out before the workmen can come. Think i spotted the missing traffic cones in a house about 400 yds away. A slow drive past i think.

Yes, they do and have done . Even to breaking a leg in a pothole in the middle of the road. Falling over computer wires, and slipping on a wet floor !

Its only a matter of time before Farmers have to errect signs for this?

As for the other part where you walk, i agree look where you are going, but there's a lot of people old and young who still trip up over our badly cared for roads and footways, and this is why we have a thing called "Duty of Care" and if the Council fixed things in time we wouldn't need people putting in claims, thus saving taxpayers money.
As for the light and bollard lights not working in Wallasey Village, checked the web page these should have been fixed in Nov, and still haven't been done but they can spend time fitting Xmas lights
