OP yoller Smartchild Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 576 Cheshire	Was there a major redevelopment of Ellesmere Port town centre (in the Whitby Road / Stanney Lane area, where the Port Arcades, etc, are now) in the late 1950s-early 1960s? We visited friends there when I was young and were taken to the cinema next to the railway station. As we walked back towards the town centre, I remember the whole area looked like one massive building site.

There's a real danger that the left will drag Britain back to the 1970s, with secure well-paid jobs, ample housing, properly-funded NHS and social care, free tuition, student grants, final salary pensions, affordable rail fares and fabulous films and music.
