Lets hope they do a back up regularly. Had to laugh when I heard the news reporter say Doctors and nurses had even had to go back to using pen and paper!

My understanding is that computers are OK if all updates have been done. Many people tend not to fully shut down their computer before they go home each night and the update starts when computer is restarted - No restart = no update.
This applies to your home computer as well so leaving it in standby every night is not good

What has exacerbated ransomware is that many large organisations have coughed up the ransom, so encouraging it.

Every organisation should have backups, paying the pirates might be the cheapest solution but how long will it be before they make payments and the ransomware isn't unlocked as it could be a spoof or the ransom demands get bigger.

Giving into ransoms is creating a rod for your own back.

Does closing down every night mean the computor slows up?

The opposite, although a boot takes longer than a wake-up from standby, during the shutdown and boot-up stages there is some housekeeping done which will help prevent the computer slowing down.

It pays to leave your computer running now and then as things like disk defragmentation, indexing and other background tidy-ups happen when the computer isn't being used.

More to come apparently. This is what I've always said too reliant on technology. I know it's hard not too be in this day and age but there should be more written down on good old pen and paper. I always say that one of these days it will all go caput and people will be running around like crazy and everything will have to revert back just too survive.

Tend to agree. Would anyone know how a manual filing system works ? It's truly not rocket science, but it was a back-up for when computers crashed ...and they did, but I dare say all that has been abolished now. There could be major problems if companies can't get at the accounts , who owes what etc., particularly when money transactions seem to be agreed in £millions these days.
People will forget how to write, how to communicate, suffer from RSI, be fed complete rubbish and untruths, have huge inferiority complexes through lack of socialising . Their greatest friend will be their iphone or equivalent and looking at themselves in 'selfies' .

Techno babes eh Granny. My 3 year old grandson is better on iPad than me, swiping away getting his shows and games on. I don't let him on it too long but it's the age we live in most kids have them.

Ha ! They are pretty quick at such an early age. Mini computers themselves, absorbing everything. That's a good reason I like watching little ones, just monitoring what and how they do things. Brilliant stuff !

That aside, I still think our natural skills enabling us to be social animals are being eroded, and rapidly.

It's horrible to think of the world if it carries on this way. There will be no shops everything done on line. As you and Edd say no social skills whatsoever. Just be like moronic robots walking around, most prob come up with something were you don't even have to walk. I'll most prob be gone by then so won't have to witness it.
