Absolutely fuming ! Maybe Trick or Treat but doubt it.

I ordered some items from John Lewis 2 days ago.

Email received this pm from HERMES, the company that delivers them saying : your parcel has been successfully delivered.

As I was out when it was delivered, I looked at the Tracking. Message sent at 12.44pm 'Left securely in outbuilding'. Too dark to see in there tonight, so decided to look in the morning.

My next door neighbour has just knocked with a parcel in his hand. His wife had found it in their grey wheelie bin !!!

Has anyone else had problems with HERMES ?

I sent a parcel to my daughter in Kent a few months ago, which didn't arrive. It was going in and out of the HERMES distribution centre by the day. Complained to John Lewis and they sent another order FOC, but didn't expect to end up with duplicate of everything 3/4 weeks later. (which was a nice bonus)

Not good enough !!

Ive used them 8/9 times without a problem , but theyve never had to leave it anywhere , so not perhaps a fair test.

The bin was on the pavement ,not even in their garden as it had been emptied earlier today.

Why would they say it was 'secure in an outbuilding' ! Grrrr..
.

Mate had a car side-window he bought thrown over his 6ft gate, not only did it smash but also the replacement got the same result when that arrived. The "drivers" are "self-employed" and put under ridiculous pressure by MyHermes for not a lot of money (way below minimum wage).

I've had stuff thrown over the fence by them as well but hasn't happened for the last year or so.

If there isn't , within the next 48 hours, I shall be back onto John Lewis with more to complain about. Might get a free Christmas Pudding, ...maybe that's just hopeful.

Surely, Hermes is not a company that anyone would wish to deal with.

Thanks for that Palemoon.

Hopefully the many companies like MyHermes will be sorted out when the Uber appeal fails. Sub-contracting to self-employed people to avoid minimum pay and other employment rights should have no place in modern society, we are getting dragged back to the dark ages.

Twice now my orders have been taken to a shop for me to collect .This means a journey on TWO buses & a walk. If the shop owner isn't available nobody else can hand over the orders as they're not trained to do so.I have a porch where parcels can be left so I now leave a note saying that if order taken to that shop it will stay there as I won't be collecting it.

I used them quite a lot (49 times to be exact) posting out ebay stuff as they were much cheaper than Royal Mail. Then royal mail reduced there price for some parcels so I switched back. Never had a problem with Hermes. I will be down to the individual drivers rushing. Looked into doing similar job few years ago and thought it would be a lot of hassle for the money.

What a nightmare for you, lincle. It all seems ridiculous . The little (and it is little) shop near me is at times heaving with people collecting their parcels. I don't know where they store them but as Christmas approaches it gets crazy.

If we know when any delivery is likely to arrive, I'm sure in most cases we can make an arrangement, i.e. if we are not at home.

However, in this case the parcel was not due to be delivered until tomorrow ,2nd November. So although a speedy delivery, which is in contrast to a previous order being delivered, if it's not expected then it's impossible to make any arrangements for the correct day.

Quite a few delivery companies give the option for it to be left in a designated safe place. e.g in trailer. over back gate, behind hedge. Think parcelforce will leave it at your nearest post office rather than the sorting office.

Anyone used these parcel boxes at garages

A few weeks ago I 'received' a parcel delivered by My Hermes. It was a large mattress topper and the parcel was the size of a squished wheelie bin. The driver just left it outside the house in full view of everyone. I was in, and my neighbours were on both sides next door but they didn't knock, just dumped it on the doorstep and drove away. I was fuming as I needed it for a visitors arriving the next day and if it had been stolen I would just have had a rather hard guest bed to offer them. I emailed the company supplying the topper and they replied saying they would take it up with My Hermes. Having said that I've sent things by My Hermes which have all arrived safely and it's convenient that you can take them to a local collection point such as a petrol station. I suppose there will always be some lazy drivers.

I've had Hermes deliveries a number of times (from QVC and Hochanda) - I've never had a problem. I know the drivers name, and have his phone number - he is always charming and polite and has time for a word or two. The driver who substitutes if mine is on holiday is equally as good. The tracking works fine so I always know where the parcel is in the scheme of things.

I have heard bad reports, and seen a worrying video - but from personal experience I would recommend them, but perhaps I'm just lucky in my driver.
