no such luck

Walking along I spied a pound
But some lousey b#stard had fixed it to the ground
I tried and tried to pick it up
Needless to say I had no such luck
So if you see that pound today
Say I don't need you and just walk away

I Tried

i thought i would spend some time
to write and post a little rhyme
but the words are hard to find
as at the moment none come to mind
i doubt with this that i'll win
and it will end up in the delete bin
granny no need to post this on the thread
it's not any good and best left unread

Little Lad

Almost time for the elves and gnomes
To poke their heads out of Santa's home.

Toys all made and polished with pride,
An old bone for Fido, put on one side.

Not to forget our four legged friend,
He's hoping the ' flashing lights' will soon end .

Santa wore green and could hide in a tree,
Now he wears red and we sit on his knee.

He visits the grottos or flys in the sky;
It's true, it lights up when old Santa comes by.

His sack full of joy for the happy young kids,
As the sandman closes their pretty eyelids..

The children of others may not hear his sleigh;
But willl leave a small carrot for Rudolph, this day.

What will the 'child without destiny' find,
On the morning when most kids have presents in mind ?

Could it be elves who dance in his head ,
Or a sack full of dreams at the end of his bed ?

Will he have fun with nothing to fear ?
Will he have peace for the rest of the year ?

Dad flops on the couch whilst wearing his cap,
With a Big Mac dinner that rests on his lap.

Did this little lad get a toy or a game,
Is there someone to play when he calls out their name ?

Someone to laugh at the joke that he tells,
And not say he's stupid and always smells.

A 'hope' that he's wished for, far too long,
He talks about Jesus, and gets it all wrong.

Sits in the corner whilst smiling, (pretending),
Watching his mum who is 'flat out ' from spending.

When really she spent it on having a 'few'
She's going to enjoy her Christmas too !

He ain't got no love, this poor little lad,
And now starts to ask why the world is so bad.

The mouse hoovers crumbs of the crisps that he ate.
Found in a brown bag, that was dropped by the gate.

A bottle of coke, and a book about Heaven, ?
He can't read it yet, he's only just seven !

Fido's confined to the yard night and day,
They share little secrets, (and tears, I dare say.)

"I've been very good , maybe Santa is late",
"Or he'll come next year when I'm just about eight".

His friend cycles past on a shiny new bike,
And the little lad calls, "Happy Christmas, Mike" !

Won't Give Up

As I walked along I spied that pound,
Remebered the warning that was given so loud
Stopped and thought about how it would lift,
Gave it a kick, hoped it would shift,
But that pound means a lot to me
I won't give up until it's free.

The Hunter

Like so proud father of new born child the hunter cradles his kill
With bloodied hands and pitiless eyes he feels the murderers thrill
No thoughts of what the tiger felt
All he cared for was her pelt
Discarded now her body lies bereft and naked of her skin
The hunter leaves pleased with his day he did not know he,d committed a sin
He only knew that his days feat
Would buy the rice for his children to eat
He saw not the rich mans haven
Whose walls were heavily laden
With lifeless heads and obscene rugs from untold slaughtered animals
Whose only existence soon would be a tragic chapter in life's annals..

Remembrance

A sea of faces with stories to tell
Prayers and hymns not sung very well
Man in a frock holds a cross up high
Soldiers in uniform with flags to the sky
Bugler sounds a faltering last post
Whilst little children fidget the most
A silence falls as one by one
Remember the deeds their loved ones done
Wreaths laid in solemn fashion
Civic duties without expression
Bands march by to gentle applause
Veterans follow who fought the great wars
Remembrance is over for another year
But many will daily shed a fresh tear

PEACE AND QUIET.

Picture yourself near a stream.
Birds are singing in crisp cool mountain air.

Nothing can bother you here.
No one knows this secret place.
Hear the sounds and enjoy the peace.

Feel the sweet air on your face, your skin.
You are in total seclusion from that place called the world.

The soothing sound of a gentle waterfall fills the air with a cascade of serenity.

The water is clear.

You can easily make out the face of the person whose head you're holding under the water.

There now ......

Feeling better ?

The above poem 'Peace and Quiet' was entered in error. A slight misunderstanding of the rules.

So, although you enjoy the poem, it will not be entered into the competition.

Thanks for contributing Sir, but please try again. smile

THE MINE.

Comfort sought in Mother Earth.
In strata deep, light fathoms above.
The mine's inky shrouds enveloping glove.

To sit alone, lamp out, blackest black and silent too.
A taster for inevitable death to come ?
A drip joins a puddle not far away - still alive - hooray !

That climb to grass up shaft so deep.
Always just a few more rungs - more added every year ?
Daylight at last, white clouds scud by, they seem so very very near.

Give silent thanks for sweet pure air.
Remember all miners long since dead.
Have you sampled what lies ahead ?

Mind Altering Drugs.

Forced into blind submission, a foreign takeover 'midst whirling buzz.
Senseless, devoid of reason, the greatest asset of being.
Degraded by a force so great yet so intangible ,the mind must fall back to numb obedience-
No longer the ability to work out, clarify, search for its own security,
its own position 'mongst torrents of influence --
Influence which washes away self confidence in its stream,
Tears seeds of contentment from the clutching bank of being-
Rips roots of independence from established foundations,
Cross questions them, paralyses with doubt.
The fragmented mind is carried along by this surging power,
Blindfold, terrified by ignorance of the future
Bewildered in seeing no path of return.
The mind like a plant can keep growing to infinity ,
Without roots ,it becomes wilted and pale ,
Without purpose ,the mind can no longer rule being .

rain !!!!!

Oh cheer up! Its not that bad
Its raining hard but don't be sad.
The weather is a talking point
But hail or snow we get the point,
That the sun is on its way.

Hold on a mo, what you on about
Its only November, its not time to scream and shout.
The suns asleep and there it will stay,
Well at least until next bloody May.

Oh cheer up! You miserable git
The most it can do is get you wet.
