The annual motor racing event has just started on Kings Parade. This usually means road closures tonight and all day tomorrow.

Little boys and their noisey toys, damaging an already damaged and pitted promenade road surface, which the residents will have to pick their way along come Sunday and the rest of the year.

Damn good job they dont bring money into a resort on its financial arse with extra visitors using the support industries like pubs and restaurants in the a area, best whine about the road surface being damaged by the cars eh? Not like the lorries that have to service the supermarkets at new brighton, or the pollution those big diesels bring, the non recyclable crap left by the average user at 'the dips' easoer to sit in judgement over a well organised event that provides a national focus on our area welcoming guests to an event that celebrates our ability to support big events. Oh to be a luddite. And outsiders, oh lets brick up the tunnels.

You would not be a happy Morrisons shopper Mr Near Oval if those lorries did not top up the shelves for you. The amount of extra people visiting the so called rally would not fill a Merseyrail coach, so dont know where you get a national focus on our area from hehe, our abilty to support big events has long been known without a tupence hapenny rally being required. The 3 Queens comes to mind a long with the Tall Ships etc, and the promenade still has a lousey road surface which the locals have to use.

In previous years there have been about 7,500 to 10,000 spectators at the rallies. No idea on numbers this year but I agree it wasn't as widely publicised as it could have been to locals at any rate.

I didnt attend myself, but am pretty sure local area has benefitted from competitors and support teams and whatever level of spectators visitting/staying in the area, but maybe they all live on fresh air and drink sea water.
