I will need some bedroom sliding wardrobe doors soon once a new radiator is fitted and I can lay the laminate so am looking for any recommendations of anyone who has had some fitted. I was impressed by the quote from Images in Bromborough but when I went to their showroom wasn't too keen on the quality. Next door the quality at Sliderobes was fabulous but way out of my price range.
B & Q had some nice quality doors andI was tempted to try and fit them myself but when I asked two skilled joiners they said they didn't do sliding doors which makes me concerned that they are more tricky than expected.
Any advice will be very welcome

Sliding doors are not very complicated to do. I have done them a few times with very little difficulty. Loads of you tube videos around to show how but the instructions with the kit are reasonably good.Measure twice very carefully and take it slowly.
Slik do a very good kit which Screwfix, B&Q etc all sell them for £20-£30.

Thanks Salmon and Fish. I'll take a stab at most DIY but I'm a bit nervous about tackling these. As rain has cancelled my plans, I might go back down to Images and have another look at their doors. I was hoping someone knew of a joiner who had fitted them before and had done a good job.

Have a look at Argyle Mirror Doors in Birkenhead. We have used them in our last three houses and prices are very reasonable.

Just a thought - I used to clean a house with sliding mirror doors in the bedroom. They looked lovely and made a small room look larger, but I was forever cleaning fingerprints off the mirror! Every mark shows. If you can find any with wood-effect panels or similar in the main handling area it does make life easier in teh long term.

Yeah, we have wood panelling on either side of the mirror doors and its much easier to clean.

Thanks for that, I wasn't going to go for mirrored doors as the bed will be opposite the doors and the idea of waking up to my image was a bit scary!!

I bought a set of 4 mirrored sliding doors about 10 years ago and fitted them in my bedroom myself. They are not an expensive make, bought from Rapid in Liverpool I think. My joinery skills are only rudimentary but I found them not too difficult to fit as the doors run on the bottom track and as long as it is level it is ok, the top track is only a support for the top of the doors and there is quite a bit of leeway when fitting it. As the doors did not reach the ceiling I filled the gap with a length of wide skirting board and painting it up. Instead of making shelves I put an old wardrobe inside the doors and put a couple of clothes rails and a chest of drawers inside. I think that if you have a good look at the door system you will find it easier to fit than you thought at first glance. Best of luck to you anyway whatever you decide to do.

I'm just starting to fit a set in our bedroom. I'm getting them from Argyle - most helpful - and fitting the tracks etc. and then giving them the exact measurements to make the doors...don't forsee any problems really..I built my own conservatory last year and this pales in complexity!! I'm not a joiner either, just a competent DIY'er.

I can thoroughly recommend SlideRobes, had some fitted in 2 bedrooms last year and they are amazing.

An update on my progress....I've fixed the side rails and upper and lower tracks...no problem but they have to be pretty level so care needed. The guy from Argyle came round and measured for the doors...two mirror and one 'wood effect'...should be delivered on Tuesday or Wednesday..only a 15 minute job. I'm not sure if I can post pics but will if I can.

It's a big wardrobe.... 10' 6" long and 8' 6" high and I've paid just over £500 which I think is very good.

Unfortunately I was waiting for someone to fit the new radiator in the bedroom. Until that is done I can't fit the laminate and skirting boards in case they need to pull up the floor boards. I might seek alternative people to fit the radiator as the project needs moving on. It's a bit frustrating having bare floorboards and no wardrobe for two months. I looked at the quality of doors at Howells and a friend has given me details of a joiner who might be able to fit them. Will let you know if I can get things moving.
