Am currently looking for a new laptop, this is the specs of the one am looking at

What I would like to know I notice some desktop pcs have 2 hard drives a small ssd for o/s and programs and a 1 TB harddrive for storage.

Can you get laptops set up like that.

My First question would be what are you using it for ?
To warrant such a high spec ?

Thats a lot of money to throw at a Windows 8 machine !

External storage : Just use drop box / Google Drive

Most laptops now run on SSD Drives.
Solid state drive no moving parts = quicker.

Touch Screen Note:
Think about this, most people hate to sit with a laptop and see smudges on there screen, and when they do see them want to clean them, so that's what we do.
Well 5 mins using a touch screen with greasy fingers get your cloth ready as you will always be cleaning it.

My first 17" laptop had an i7 cpu 8gb memory and 2 hard drives a 750gb one and a 500gb one....cant remember the make but ill find out

USB 3 kicks ass, mega fast.

Ditch the touchscreen.

Solid state drives are really fast too, I have one in my iMac.

You can get more drives fitted if there's room or just upgrade the ones in it.

A high spec laptop now will not necessarily be classed as high spec in 3 years time but buying the best you can afford will usually give you a certain safeguard for 'future proofing'. Touch screens are a matter for the individual, I personally find them very intuitive and have fitted a screen protector film which reduces the appearance of the finger marks. Some laptops have a second bay for additional drives or alternatively you could fit an external drive which could also be a wireless drive accessible to others in your home network but make sure it's password protected.
