I think The Beresford was on the corner of Sun St. There was a butcher on the opposite corner of 'Benny' and 'little' Sun ST. And on the other corner of 'little' Sun St was Miss Heggies. But what was on the corner opposite the Beresford and 'big' Sun St?
The wall of a house in Bentinck st, if I remember there was a wide gate then the back entry, next to the Beresford I think was a house then the sweet shop then the pub on the corner in Gladstone st and opposite was the bombdies and Lowther st where I lived.
Hi I am researching my family history. My dad was born in the Beresford, his dad Richard Humphreys was landlord and I’ve just found out his father John was landlord before him. If you have any details I would love to hear them. Cheers.
Yes, I remember from the 1950’s. I’m fairly certain that the whole family left the Beresford in about 1956 and moved to the ‘Comet’ in Laird Street. I was once invited upstairs' but then I joined the Forces and lost touch although I’m fairly certain that Kathleen is still going strong, living in Irby.
Just a private house, No. 59, on that corner. A widow, four daughters and three sons. Mrs D was great friends with the landlord Harry from the Beresford and often helped out as the Barmaid. The girls also helped out with the pub further down Bentinck Street. Can’t remember the name of that little pub now.
