The clock in task bar will not stay set, and have go keep setting it and certain prograns and websites says check time and something abouf synching.

I dont fancy stripping it down to change battery i would rather pay for someone who knows what they are doing.

You can buy the batteries from most Big Stores nowadays or any half decent electrical shop.

From £1 - £3 there all the same CR32 If i remember.

Confirm its the battery?
1. Set the time and date correctly.
2. Shut down the laptop.
3. Remove the Main Charable batery.
4. Leave it over night.

Morning.
Power up the laptop.
Press DEL or what ever it is on a Dell for the BIOS
Navigate to Time and Date.
Confirm its the correct time.
If its not then the battery is at fault.
If its ok continue to boot into windows
as it may be software changing the time and date !!

Hope that helps.

Sometime the CMOS battery can be accessed in the battery compartment but not in this case frown

Some people like the white paste, others insist on silver whilst a few go for gold.

For a "low end" laptop like the 1545 that isn't going to be playing high end games pretty much any will do.

Make sure you clean the old stuff off properly and try not to get it on your fingers or in your mouth, as it does tend to go through your system fairly quickly.

Yes it's the same stuff, just make sure that it's only on the chip (and of course the heat sink), don't get it all over the board.

Seem to have a problem with this laptop now, 2 days ago it was making screeching and grinding noises, (I never heard it, I was told) today it would not boot up, it seems to be stuck on a loop of booting, a very quick flash of the blue screen of death before trying to reboot.

Can not see what blue screen says as it comes and goes so fast.

I have put recovery disc in and after 2 hrs I got to point of format disc which it did, but its running so slow installing from recovery disc.

Any ideas? I was thinking not enough cpu paste, but that would not of caused the grinding and screeching noise, maybe hdd drive knackered, I have not got a clue.

Blue screen can indicate hardware fault.
If it was a pc I would say remove all USB connections etc.

With it being a laptop, something could have moved inside shorting a connection. Shake it in the air do you hear anything loose?

Failing that.
Strip it down again and build it back up.

Its so slow !!
Check the memory installed on the boot up screen.

Screeching and grinding noises Hard Drive or CDROM.
Possible the CPU Fan on the heat sink.

Had Drive can make like a Click Click Noise. Not normally Screeching.
The CDROM could as it is part of the Boot up order and could be seeking for a boot CD.

CPU Fan
wait for it to get hot (BLock a few holes with your hand) when you feel the air coming out its kicked in. Does it make the same Noise ?

That's it for now ?
