Three arrested in connection with murder of Merseyside dad
46-year-old arrested on suspicion of murder; two others charged with assisting offender
Three people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Merseyside dad.
The arrests come days after police hunting the killer of Mark Reissing launched an appeal in the ECHO asking for the public’s help to trace Nazzareno Abela.
Detectives said Mr Abela had information “vital” to the murder probe.
A 46-year-old man from Wallasey, understood to be Abela, handed himself into a Liverpool police station this afternoon and was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Two further people have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
A 25-year-old woman from Wallasey was arrested this afternoon while a 30-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on Wednesday evening.
All three have been taken to separate police stations on Merseyside for questioning.
The body of Mr Reissing, from Wallasey, was found with head injuries on Manor Lane, near the junction with Egremont Promenade, New Brighton, by a dog walker at 5.50am last Tuesday.
A Home Office post mortem examination indicated the 48-year-old died as a result of “multiple injuries”.
The latest arrests come after two people earlier arrested on suspicion of murder were bailed pending further enquiries.
A 37-year-old woman was bailed last Thursday.
Police were granted extra time to quiz a 41-year-old man from Wallasey by magistrates, but he has also since been released.
