I would make sure you do a full virus scan etc as there are nasties that can attach themselves to that process. Or even be a seperate process but named as such, as usually processes with that name are needed system processes (if you look at your process list you will find more than one of them with that name)
good luck!

You need svchost.exe And it's common to see it several times running.

I've seen this before - with me it was a virus and quite a difficult one to shift. You can ensure anti-virus and spyware up to date ... Some free stuff: http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ http://www.f-secure.com/en/web/labs_global/removal-toolsWorth running these - I know the banks endorse the above as good security software. The quickest way to fix of course is to re-install the OS.. get your disk or restore from the partition and rebuild but you will lose any data i.e. photos, letters unless these are already backed up somewhere!

I found out what the problem was....while looking for an audio driver I downloaded Driver Detective which is nothing but a scam site riddled with attachments that pose as svchost.exe, so after some work I systematatly removed all their components and 'got control of my puter back.Moral of the story is STEER CLEAR OF DRIVER DETECTIVE!]

If you want an all in one driver updater, try slimdrivers, works quite well.
