Traffic hold up and police cars on flyover Tuesday afternoon around 2:30. Any info? Was wondering if it was someone wanting to jump. Seemed to be clearing as I passed about 3pm

A WIRRAL road was closed after a man threatened to jump from an overhead bridge.

Police were called to Woodchurch Road, Birkenhead at around 2.40pm and shut the road in both directions.

Officers attended and found the man, who is believed to be in his 30s, who was "clearly upset."

But the road has now been re-opened after the man was talked down.

A spokesman said: "As a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of both man and the public a section of Woodchurch Road was closed.


"Officers spoke with the man and at about 3.20pm he was persuaded to come down.

"The man has been taken to hospital for treatment."
