House Insurance

My insurance company has farmed my claim out to another company ,it was then arranged for a surveyor(loss adjuster)to visit and make a schedule of work needing to be done etc. That seems fine.
The insurance company originally told me to get an independant report/estimate done for the work.
That done, when comparing the two assesments, the surveyor has not included various works, which I know will need doing. e.g. No one can plaster behind a radiator without removing it. The removal of the radiator has nor been included nor the removal and replacement of tiles. Various things like that have been ommitted from the surveyors report. They have been included on the estimate that I had done independantly, which was listed as work deemed to be necessary.
For what purpose do the insurers try to pretend these jobs are not necessary and would it be advisable to contact an official organisation before any work begins, so someone independant and outside this little hub of deceipt is aware and can act on my behalf, if needs be? If so , who?

You really need someone on your side to bat for you. Their costs should be included in your claim.

I don't know if these can help but it's a start.

These people seem to bat for the insurers but are local and might be worth having a conversation with.

Depends on cost of what you consider needs doing but it is possible to instruct your own loss adjuster to negotiate your claim. They don't charge to discuss your situation and in the event that the insurance company's man is wrong all your costs are paid.
Cannot think of a name offhand but there is a good one in Exchange street East Liverpool.
In any event just advise your insurance company that you are not happy.

Thanks Moonstar (love that name) and Rossie. Most helpful. I will contact them and see what they all have to say.

The worry is, that the company brought in to handle my claim by the Insurance Company have got really serious, bad press on the internet and it looks as though it's possible, my claim could be treated in the same way as others have been. So, I thought it would be better to find out anything which I need to know before even letting them through the door to start the work.
Thanks again.

Spot on Granny. Your team should bat their team, otherwise it feels like just you versus a Corporate Mass!
