I am writing on behalf of Wirral Unite Against Cuts, we have been campaigning for some time against the proposed cuts to jobs and services on the Wirral. We would like to invite you all to a lobby of the councillors on the 13th of Febuary at 5pm outside the floral pavilion in New Brighton. The councillors are having a training day there and it is a perfect opportunity to confront them and remind them who they should be representing and that they should be standing with us against the coalition cuts not passing them on to us. This year is our best chance to fight these cuts and send a message to our councillors and government that we will not pay with our jobs and services for the gambling debts of the financial sector. With a complete lack of jobs and opportunities on the Wirral what will be left after the proposed cuts planned over three years? Please inform your friends and families of this lobby and make the effort to come down and fight for our community

Nobody likes to see services cut, nor people losing their jobs, whether in the private sector or the public sector. But every town hall in the country has a duty at this time to cut back on waste. For those of you who haven't kept their eye on the ball, this country is more than a £trillion in debt and climbing.
Those people who work in local government have a responsibility to seek out waste in every nook and cranny where it exists and eliminate it. We can still have services but they have to be paid for. If we hadn't had a freeze on council tax these last couple of year I reckon anybody living in a band C property would now be paying £150.00 a month. That's totally unacceptable.
Meanwhile there are many who have never paid a bean in local council tax. The L. A. needs to balance its ledgers, cut back on its high salary earners. There are thousands who rely upon benefits to pay their rent, never mind council tax, and have done so for years. There will be hundreds of thousands of people entering this country next year from Eastern Europe. Many will make their way to the Wirral as the South-east won't be able to accomodate them all. Who is going to support them?
We need the private sector to get things going in this part of the country, especially if our school leavers are going to find useful and productive employment.
The days have gone when people could expect to rely upon the public sector for their livelihoods. It's time to wake up.

At the end of the day, there is nothing anyone can do to change what is happening in our local authority, the central government in london are the ones who have cut our local budget, it is them that people need to be focusing on, crowds of people outside the town hall may effect the way certain decisions are made, but unless the central government can be made to realise how difficult they are making it for our area (even though they probably already do as they seem to like picking on labour ran councils), there is only so much our local council can do. So if you are serious about making changes, you need to get the backing of our local MP and take it further up the line.
