I know it's a long shot, but can anyone help? My daughter has a Nikon D3100 and is looking for a bigger lens. She's after a zoom type lens but also likes taking macro shots. She has one at the moment I think it's a 70-300 but it doesn't have a motor and she has trouble with focus. She has seen one in John Lewis for £400 but my mum has seen one on Amazon for £100-ish. I am sure they are not the same and I don't really know much about them if I'm totally honest. Is this any good? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tamron-AF-70...4870094&sr=1-4Any tips? Would love a link to click and buy, but some advice would be wonderful. Thanks

Your link is not working, I usually go into Jessops in Chester as the people there are quite good, but seeing Chester Council have decided they don't need cars in town and are building on the big Northgate carpark then I'll wait until Jessops move along with the other stores from the town centre to the Greyhound stadium.

Jessops have the same lens at the same price on their web, pop into the Liverpool one if you can and take your camera and check it out with them, lenses can make or break a piccy and are usually a personal choice, besides it gives you a chance to check one out before you buy, ring then up to see if they have one in, it will save you a trip.

I have bought a couple of lenses from ebay in the last year or two for my Nikon d50. Make sure it has the right fitting for the model. You have to check the number of contacts on the camera end of the lens. If you see one on either Amazon or Ebay ask the vendor does it fit. I always use this site for checking how good various Nikon lenses and cameras are: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/

I have no expirence of that particular Tamron lens but I do have a Tamron 18 - 250 lens for my Nikon D5000. The build quality is noticebly not as good as the Sigma and Nikon lenses I have but it does its job, captures great shots and cost less than the other manufactures versions.
