I've been reading online a bit about Wirral Waters and that it's allegedly going to transform the docklands into some kind of super duper landmark. I haven't been to that particular area of Wirral in a long time and therefore haven't seen if anything has yet been started on the project. Can anyone tell me if it has begun and also what do the people of Wirral think of it? I do hope it will end up being all it's cracked up to be and will bring some much needed money and employment to the area.

Nothing has begun as yet unless you count bridge repairs and dumping hundreds of tons of sand or cement mix near the water.

The heaps on the dockside are rock salt, as for them transforming the docklands , it will just create an island between Seacombe and Birkenhead , the rich surrouned by the not so rich.

...and it is likely to take 40yrs to complete, so I won't see it and neither will many. Not even the ones who have put the plans into action, nor half the staff at Peel Holdings, including Mr Whittaker. There is a thread with more about it on here I think. Will try to find it. Chriskay knows which it is, I'm sure.

Also it's likely I won't see it completed either if it takes 40 years to finish. I was looking at homes for sale online yesterday in and around Birkenhead and a couple of them used the selling point "near the Wirral Waters development" so I just assumed it was well underway.

I'm sorry, Granny, I don't have the magic powers you attribute to me, but, Elizabeth, if you search for "wirral waters" (include the quotes), and search at least the last year, you'll find some stuff.

Sorry Chris, got confused and no doubt, Bert will have to put in his four penny worth, at that! Unfortunately, I can't find it either Elizabeth, although I really believed in Chriskay's magical powers. He must have got stuck in a 'pot' somewhere.

It might just do the town a bit of good, God only knows it needs something doing. It's not only dwelling that are planned, there will be warehouses and commercial properties as well. Shouldn't assume either that all the people are on their uppers just because they live in the area. It will provide employment and should improve the scenery somewhat. Let's be honest, it can't be left as it is. Every journey starts with one step.

Think the first build on this side is the International Trade Centre, Peel have already set up shop in the town hall to get this moving.
I have heard of at least 6 overseas trade delegations visiting the area in the coming year.
I am optimistic about the future of the Wirral, I think we will see positive change in the local economies over the next three years and as a result will see an increase in the opportunities available to local people.
The key growth sectors are offshore, low carbon, the new superport, knowledge economy, visitor and digital. There are an estimated 40,000 extra jobs to be created on Merseyside from these sectors, this obviously includes the Wirral.
Both sides of the Mersey have been in decline for at least the last 30 years, at one point the Govt considered winding down Liverpool as a City, moving toward depopulation, because of the percieved unfixable social ills.
If it takes 40 years to get back on top then so be it, at least there will be a legacy and a bright future for the next generation.

Which Town Hall have Peel set up in? Prior to the Birkenhead Town Hall closing, they were looking for a 'prestigious' building in Birkenhead and one wonders why the Council have been hanging onto it for so long and not even giving a clue as to what the intentions were!! By the way, I would hope that other businesses are not going to wait so long, before they decide to give the area a chance.Best not to put all the eggs in one basket. 40 years would result in two generations missing out. That would be a disaster! It's hard to understand why developement takes so long anyway. The new Floral Pavilion was first discussed approx year 2000. So how long was that before they started work?

Quite a lot of information on this site. http://www.investwirral.com/wirral-waters/international-trade-centre.aspxTaking all into consideration, the whole area is going to be transformed including the transport system. The motorway and tunels are hardly likely to be able to cope with the increased volume of traffic, all going to and from the same area. Wonder if they will re-open any stations, or build a new bridge across the Mersey? Any ideas?

Here the article from local press regarding Town Hall. Click I think we will see some improvement to employment and business opportunities before too long, the timescale of 40 years is the lifespan of the total investment and build. The firt part on the Wirral is the proposed ITC, over the water it is the Superport starting early next year which will create thousands of new jobs. K
