They are fireworks going off. We could see them by looking over New Ferry Park, towards the river. We assume they've been let off from the Liverpool side, as haven't heard about any events on the river today.

Heard them in Thingwall.
Have never before heard fireworks going off in Liverpool or on the Mersey although we are able to see them. Too far away. Maybe it was due to wind!
