Hi all, can anyone recommend a free zip-file that's been tried and tested - and proved virus free?

free zip file??? as in that can make files into zip files???
if you're on windows you should automatically have winzip installed which is the standard one. if not google "winzip" and download it, another similar thing is "winrar" which isn't standard on windows computers but can zip files and also rar files which can break them down to smaller chunks for easier transportation and also add a password to rar'd files too.
so if you just wanna zip files "winzip" is your thing or if you want to add a few other bits "winrar" would be for you.
both tried, tested, virus free.

Don't use winzip. We're not in the 90's anymore.
Use 7zip or winrar. Winrar is masterrace.

Excellent, thank you both. I have used winzip in the past but it wanted me to start paying for it. I'll have a look at the others. Thanks a lot!

The kind of system you are using will determine what choices you have to read/create zip files. Microsoft Windows has it's own tools for zipping, Apple Mac's use another and Linux uses have a world of free software choices.
Which do you have ?
