Birkenhead Maternity Hospital, Grange Mount This was established in 1846 as the Birkenhead Ladies Charitable Institution and Lying-in [maternity]Hospital. The title of 'Birkenhead Maternity Hospital' started in 1913. it closed in 1978. it was demolished in 2001 for safety reasons, despite being a Grade II listed building. The records of births are now held at the Wirral Museum in Hamilton St, Birkenhead. [Text from Geograph Britain]

Both my little darlings (!) were born at what was known as Grange Mount. It was small compared to todays Maternity facilities, with the whole place only concerned with the mothers and their babies, which meant true individual care. The food was fabulous and when you left, after a period of 5-10 days, you were waved off at the front door.
