I think this is a Police Station, but just can't place it. Is it Rock Ferry?

Yes, a Police Station indeed. Complete with police Wolsely parked outside. Slatey Road, Oxton I think (?)

I have a feeling this was blatted/seriously worried by a bomb in WW2.

Just had a quick look in Wilmers Directory for Birkenhead. 1915/16. Under Slatey Road it says:-

No.39. Police Station, Taylor, John, Sergeant.

Sorry, haven't a clue how to reproduce the actual entry. Chris, Bert, anyone ?

The clincher would be to see what the street sign says next to that gas lamp. Is it readable on the original picture Pablo ??

God help us,
Come yourself,
Don't send Jesus,

You're having a laugh, I could barely see the bloody road.

If you want it bigger, you're gonna have to get closer to your screen...

That should be Mather Road on the corner, right next to the Williamson Art Gallery, I think, as a couple of my maps have one located there. In fact, I think you can see a little bit of the museums' front wall just to the right of the picture.

I wonder if the Sergent actually lived there, or if he was in any way related to the insurance salesman?

Also noted that the car - Registration ACM 200 - is a radio car, as it has an ariel on the roof. Also, the chimney stack has what looks like the clamps and a mast for an ariel on it. Any thoughts?

Correct, Norton, corner of Mather Rd. 1912 O.S. map; before the Williamson was built.

Really interested in this as my Grandad was a policeman at this station, which was indeed bombed in the war. I am really interested in finding out more info about my Grandad & his time in the police, if anyone knows of ways to find out more info could you point me in the right direction as not sure where to look
