Hi ponytail,the only advice I can offer is click messages,select the message you want to delete,then bring it up then click the actions box above top right,and delete your messages 1 by 1 until it says there are no messages.
On the other hand if they came about via an instant chat (will go to your message inbox if recipient goes offline then hit actions and clear window.
