A woman died this morning after being struck by a train near a railway crossing at Manor Road in Hoylake.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “The woman, who has yet to be identified, was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital where she later died as a result of the injuries sustained."
Police are not treating the death as suspicious and will now assist in the compilation of a report for the coroner.
The train involved was the 5.51am West Kirby to Liverpool loop service.

An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned at West Kirby coroner's office this afternoon.
Coroner's officer Donald Johnston told the hearing that at 6.50am, Miss Grist was seen by a witness to step onto the railway crossing at Melrose Avenue with her back to the oncoming train and her arms outstretched.
The driver applied the brakes, but it was too late to stop.
Miss Grist had been resident at Melrose House in Melrose Avenue for six months.
British Transport Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
The inquest has been adjourned until a date to be fixed in September.
