had grey bin stolen from drive on sunday night, rang council said have to pay for new one £37.00 .told them three flats in block but have only ever had 2 of each bin . they aid they even charge for bins on new builds so we would have to buy them even though three people paying council tax.

Find a wrecked one somewhere - they replace knackered ones free of charge.

The census is useless anyway, the data is 3 years out of date by the time it is analysed and published and it is only a snapshot of the country, on that particular day/week.

In addition, most of the data gathered by the census, could be gathered simply by using existing public databases, such as council tax, DWP, police etc...

The census data is being collated on behalf of the Office for National Statistics by Lockheed Martin under a £150m contract.

Hear Hear!! Just to give an idea of how hard the job used to be, have a look at this map. The bins were put out into the alley behind the houses. The binmen had to walk from the bin lorry in the street, up the alley, & back with the bin, which could be heavy with ashes from the fire. If your bin was where I've put an 'x', that's a 200 yard round trip.

Long before the wheely bins, when it was the old metal bin {some where galvo} that you put all the different kinds of waste in and the bin was emptyed every week.. If you lived in a household that required more than the ONE BIN you payed the council for a extra bin and you ALSO PAYED AN ADDITION CHARGE PER YEAR ON YOUR council tax {CALLED RATES IN THOSE DAYS}to have it emptyed. So nothing new in only been allowed one green bin and one grey bin {if you live on the wirral}unless your prepaired to pay extra.
As far as been the only person in a house, you can fill the correct paper work in and get a reduction of your council tax reduction.

Loads of houses near me have 3 green/brown bins. Most don't have lids on. One over the road has seven bins in the front garden!

I remember when they came down your back alley (if you'll excuse the expression).

I can understand a charge for another green bin but 1 bin is hardly enough for a small household per fortnight never mind a large family!

You're not trying hard enough. We put far more in the grey recycling bin than we do in the green.
