Does anyone know if a school has to have to special needs twins in separate classes or are they able to be together?

I'd have thought that they would have their special educational needs assessed individually.
If 'staying together' or 'being kept apart' is relevant, then this could be discussed prior to any Statement, being issued.
You could contact the charity (local) Parent Partnership, for advice. smile

Parent partnership have said it should be our choice if the twins het kept together or apart not the schools and suggested we move them to a different school. Ideally I want to avoid doing this as it hs taken close to a year for them to settle there and their older brother is settled aswell.

Both twins have the same conditions and theres only a slight gap in their developmen. At the minute we've been advided that statementing isn't an option though they do both get DLA.

Im more worried of what september will bring. Can a school request that pne twin stays there and the other goes to a different school? They are very reluctant to have them together now and we've been trying since January last year now.

Hya. I'm a bit sketchy now on s.e.n needs and the likes...
First and foremost, i would agree with P.P-any decision is ultimatley the parents!
Why, no Statement? I recall, that despite the process, sometimes, being arduous that the Statement will 'add weight' to the young person (s) recieving all their educational needs. Best of luck smile

firstly i cant understand if they have SEN why they havent been statemented...
do they atten a SEN school?

it is parental choice but the school can advise for them to be seperated if the children need 1-1 care and attentionmay mean that 2 teaching assistants are needed in the class and this may not be a viable option...OR them both together could be impacting on the other childrens learning in the class ...
your info is very sketchy so you may need to elaborate more....

The boys go to a main stream school but are only doing half days at the moment in two separate classes (one in the morning and one in the afternoon class). They have quite a server learning delay called global developmental delay, GDD, and the possiblity of having selective mutism (they have little speech and will only use what they know around us at home).

They've said that they are unwilling to get them statemented at the minute through "lack of evidence". Im not sure what this means? They do require 1-1, however as far as i'm aware (from what teachers tell me) they dont actually get 1-1 as other children require similar attention so it's done in a group. So my line of thinking was could both twins have this group 1-1 together? They both have separate keyworkers who have both had to be sent on trainig courses to learn sign and are both currently being shown how to help and manage their selective mutism.

Am concerned that next year the school will say the because no statement is in place there isn't the funding to cope with their needs?

I have been advised to request that they are statemented myself, how to do this i have no idea what so ever? We have had several organization meetings over the twins and still 15months later we have no clearanswer to what may happen in the future? It's been said where ever they end up they will progress and then that their school is the school for them?
