There are travellers in Ellesmere Port where my daughter lives but she said you very rarely see them,on the way to her house there's council houses a lot of them have caravans on the drives, maybe they are travellers who have decided to settle. The only time they were noticed was when there was a traveller wedding.

Perhaps not a correct opinion but in my experience, some the bad travellers tend to be in larger convoys and have a proportionally bigger impact on the communities they land on.

As I said previously, they spoil it for others.

I am curious about the travellers that buy land and settle there (legitimately or not) but still call themselves travellers. What's that about???

At Ellesmere Port by the boat museum, the police usually have 24hr surveillance when travellers park up there, I found this out when I almost crashed into the parked up police car, twice - whoops ociffer.

Im against alex,s opinion not because he has an opinion, but because he is narrow minded enough to assume that because he had a bad experience with a traveller once, that all travellers are getting tar with his dismissive brush. how sad if people who had bad experience with a neighbour, then distrusted all neighbours, how sad if a muslim punched you, and you assume all muslims are going to punch you, how sad, if a black man groped you, would you assume all black men would grope you, etc etc etc, ther is nothing wrong with a point of view, as long as you keep things in perspective. I doubt alex has ever had a deep and meeningful conversation with a traveller, i think its more likely people are uncomfortable with things, people places they don,t understand, if you dont understand something then it may make you feel uncomfortable. any way i guess we can agree to disagree, personally i prefer to give people a chance, but thats just me, each to ther own, evan you alex lol x

Well I've had experience of 4 travelling groups and all of them have been unpleasant, including a substantial amount of law-breaking which they seem to get away with if they agree to move on (provided their petrol is paid for and the legality of their vehicles is also ignored).

I'm taking other people's word that there are good travelling groups.

Probably not, because these people care less about consequences than the rest of us and I quite value my looks.

I started to edit this post to make it easier to read but I gave up.

I think I get the general point you are trying to get across but you are using awful examples.

If they made a TV series on how Muslims went round punching people as a way of life then yes I would expect all Muslims to punch me.

I really can't think of anything else to say, a 'deep and meaningful' conversation with a traveller? Erm, no thanks. They probably are as nice as pie if you agree with them.

I don't.

I also stick by my original opinion that dole scroungers are feral ....

* Not sure if I need to clarify again but for the avoidance of doubt, dole scroungers refers to those on the dole through choice, not necessity.

ok so my examples were rubish but you kinda got my point lol, not sure i can agree with you on your choice of words for dole scroungers feral ..., does seem extremly strong language. although i agree with your sentiments regards scroungers through choice and not necesity

many years of travelling sees a big diversity in what you call travellers the main " social classes " being

1 gypos....the ones who drive round in flash vehicles big campers top quality clothing and cause a nightmare to local people no matter where they crop up, through stealing burgalry damaging property etc the list is endless

2 travellers... people who go about there lives quietly living from a van , moving from farm to farm working the land for a living, moving around the country following the seasonal farm/fruit work. generally mellow people wanting to live alongside nature and be left alone !

3 without a hint of racism here then you get the irish gypsies, now they are a law unto themselves
