Yesterday I drove my vw polo and whilst turning left there was a strange noise that sounded like something snapped. Then it sounded like the bottom of the car had scraped along the pavement but it hadnt. I pulled over to investigate and couldnt see anything at first, when I got back home a wierd rubber burning smell had just started appearing not sure where from. Had a proper look at the car and it would appear that the offside front suspension has completely gone. There is no bounce at all and it is visibly lower than the drivers side.
I am sadly a bit of a bimbo when it comes to cars so I have done a little bit of investigating and it would appear that it could be a few things .. the wishbone, top mounts, bushes, macpherson strut? LOL anyway .. been trying to find out whats wrong and now I have a head ache
Please can someone save me from my headache not sure what to do?

Sounds like the front coil spring has snapped. not a big problem, prob around the £80 mark to fix. im a mechanic too so know what im talking about. that would cause the scraping, burning rubber smell and the lower / no movement in the suspension.
