I've heard about a big house in Thurstaston Road, called 'The Cave'. Don't really know much about it though.
Try looking on the Heswall.com web-site. You might find some history stuff on there.

there's a house in Heswall called the Cave and in it's garden set in a cliff face is a small cave referred to as the smugglers cave where there was supposed to be a fight between smugglers & their wives against customs officers causing a nearby brook/stream to be called the BLOODY brook Been there - with permission of owner
