Bought my first Guitar and amplifier from Rushworth in 1963, downstairs was the accessories, sheet music and strings , also record sales with booths so you could listen to them before you purchased. Was never sure if it was to make sure if you liked the record or making sure it wasn't scratched.

Acedes cars - that's a new one !

I've quite a few car adverts from the 1920's in various old AA/RAC books. Bean, Clyno, Senechal, Contantinesco, Crossley etc.

A fine collection there. I remember many of those businesses. I'm glad to have confirmation that Fabbri's was spelled with a double B. When I worked at the Ritz, I had to go once a week to Rushworth's & pick 3 or 4 records to be used for interval music; I think they got a free advert in exchange. I have a feeling that Owen Owen's was next to Allanson's, where the shops were demolished in your other thread "Grange Shopping Centre". Can anyone confirm, or am I completely wrong?

No, the orientation is wrong, also the shape. I think Owen Owen's faced onto Grange Rd. & would be where the cleared area in the pic., taken from the top of Allanson's, is. In the Owen Owen ad. above, Allanson's tower would be just beyond the right hand end of the picture.
Of course, I could be completely wrong: come on, some of my fellow old gits.

Owen Owen, which later became T J Hughes (same company - Owen Owen was the 'upmarket' version) was opposite Woolies, where Iceland is.

Thanks for that, uptoncx. I remember there was a large Owen Owen department store in Liverpool, near George Henry Lee's in Williamson Square. G.H.Lee's was seriously up-market. We have a T.J.Hughes here in Shrewsbury, selling all sorts of cheapo stuff.
