The Kraal, what a great place that was!! It reminded me a bit like the Cavern only smaller and not so smelly. Used to be some great birds their - Oh sorry is this a P.C, site. I remember eating in the cafe that John Stanley owned and sitting across the aisle was Tony Crane from The Merseys, c'mon you all remember Sorrow. Not sure if they were on that night.

I remember one night John Stanley had a brand new 'fruit machine ' installed. It went wonky and paid out the jack pot for nothing ( drugs for free ). Off to the Grand for a table full of halfs

Didn't Bob Pears work at Levers before he left
to play full time?

I used to go to the Kraal with my mate and
around half eleven there was always a
debate wether to cut your losses and go
for the last bus or hang on and see if
you could tap off.
If that failed it was a long cold walk
home.

I think John Stanley had Weavers Cafe on
Victoria Rd. Took a girl there for breakfast
after an all night session in the Kraal.
We were really sophisticated those days.

Met my wife in the Kraal and had many
friend who went there.

The Kraal Club I knew was in Albion Street at the juction with Montipelier Cresent and near where the phone box is. It had an entrance to a cellar in the Albion Street but and had what looked like a big egg carton with 'Kraal Club' wirrtin in red on a white background. It was knocked down in the 60's and was just grass until a few years ago when it was built. It's possible that it moved to the front but there was definitely a Kraal Club where I said. never went in as I was too young but I rememebr passing it every day coming home from school.
